Wind turbine clutter suppression for weather radar based on echo data

Abstract: Over the past decade, the global cumulative installed capacity of wind turbines has increased rapidly. Research shows that wind farms have serious affect on the performance of nearby weather radars. Wind farm clutter suppression can greatly improve the estimation accuracy of meteorological target parameters for weather radar,therefore it is necessary to study the wind farm clutter suppression technology for weather radar. Based on the traditional periodic characteristics suppression algorithm, the uncontaminated echoes around wind farm is used to dispose the results obtained by traditional method using characteristics of meteorological target parameters distributed uniformly with the distance. The suppression results are improved for the same frequency range of the clutter as meteorological target. Based on the above findings, quantitative performance analysis of the current method is given by the proposed performance indices, verifying the effectiveness of the algorithm.
