Abstract:

As the air traffic demand is growing quickly, the current air route network should be adjusted to accommodate the development of air transportation. The design of the backbone air route network is discussed based on the airspace of China. The backbone air route network is the one which meets the gradually growing aviation business. Firstly, several hub airports and seven border points are selected as the nodes in the backbone route network. After the hub nodes are selected, the air routes between these nodes are optimized by some conditions such as air traffic flow, angle, etc. Then some route crossing waypoints are set to further optimize the network performance. The sum of distance between the waypoint to the hub airports in the zone is shortest. After the prohibited zones in our airspace are considered, one backbone route network plan has been given at last.
