Abstract:

The effects of Bio-SPK derived fromfood residualoilon the propertiesof aircraft fuel tank sealants are systematically studied. The results indicate that after soaking in Bio-SPK component at 93℃for 28 days, the hardness of dichromate cured polysulfide sealant and manganese cured polysulfide sealant greatly increased while the ultimate elongation and volume of those two sealants decreased significantly. When soaking in the fuel with 50/50 volume ratio of Bio-SPK and traditional jet fuel, the volume swell of dichromate cured polysulfide sealant increased from -3.0% to -0.5% while the volume swell of manganese cured polysulfide sealant increased from-6.7% to -5%. The hardness and ultimate elongation of those two sealants also changed obviously.
