Abstract: With the rapid growth of the air transport industry, traditional flight procedure based fuel forecasting is no longer able to accurately calculate the amount of fuel carried by an aircraft, and therefore an accurate fuel forecast has become an important objective for the robust development of major airlines. In order to decide the quantity fuel consumption in a more scientific way, the trajectory data was firstly processed for use in the calculation of fuel consumption with the method based on the user manual for the BADA database, assuming a constant fuel consumption rate for each flight segment. The fuel consumption model for the descent and approach phase was then developed, and the analysis of the fuel consumption data was used to propose a recommended fuel carrying value for the airline for a particular flight phase. The proposed fuel consumption model was verified with the BADA database offered by Yunnan Sub-bureau, China Southwest Air Traffic Management Bureau.
