College of Air Traffic Management

College of Air Traffic Management (CATM for short) is the headstream and main force of air traffic management personnel training, pioneer of the reform of air traffic management training as well as the major battlefield of scientific research on air traffic management. The college directly provides services for ATC, flight dispatch, airport and meteorological departments at all levels of the civil aviation industry. The traffic and transportation program under the college is a national characteristic specialty construction program and Tianjin specialty construction program as well as the key construction specialty of CAAC, which is also one of the pilot specialties of “Outstanding Engineers Training Plan” of the Ministry of Education. This program passed the highest level of Engineering Education Professional Certification by the Ministry of Education at the first time in October 2012 and passed Engineering Education Professional Certification by the Ministry of Education  again in 2018. It is the first aviation transportation program that passed this certification nationwide.

Since its foundation, CATM has cultivated more than 10,000 junior college students, undergraduate students and postgraduates and trained various types of ATM personnel with more than 20,000 person-time. About 70% of the existing air traffic controllers and flight dispatchers in the domestic civil aviation system are from our college, which has provided powerful talent resources for the rapid development of China's civil aviation industry.

Currently, there are three master programs, namely traffic transportation planning and management, traffic information engineering and control and traffic transportation engineering(Master of Engineering). Three undergraduate programs are traffic transportation, traffic management and applied meteorology. At present, there are over 2,800 undergraduate and postgraduate students studying at our college. The college attaches great importance to the all-round development of students' morality, intelligence,  as well as the cultivation of students' professional qualities. More than one third of the students are prize winners in various contests at university, municipal and national level. All the senior students participate in internship and outstanding students will get the opportunity to exchange and study in other countries. The students are warmly welcomed by various employers including air traffic management authorities, airlines, airports and civil aviation administrative authorities with an employment rate of over 90%.

CATM is comprised of Airspace Planning and Aeronautical Information Department, ATC Operation and Technique Department, Flight Operation Control Department, Aeronautical Meteorological Department, ATM research base (ATM Information and Simulation Technique Department) and China Civil Aviation Dispatcher Training Center as well as synthetic laboratory centers. The college has excellent teachers such as teachers enrolled in “Ten Thousand Plan”, young and middle-aged leading talents in scientific and technological innovation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, young and middle-aged technical leaders in Civil Aviation Administration of China, etc.. At present, CATM has more than 130 teaching staff. More than half of the faculty members have the experience of being trained abroad. All of the teachers have participated in on-the-job training programs and 90% of the professional instructors hold a license in ATC, flight dispatch or aeronautical information, etc.. A large number of front-line faculty of domestic air traffic control and dispatching are hired to teach related courses every year. Moreover, Foreign teachers are invited to participate in undergraduate teaching tasks. Teachers of the college have presided over and participated in more than 100 projects of National 863 Program, National Natural Science Foundation Program and National Air Traffic Control Commission Projects, as well as provincial-level scientific and technological projects, provincial-level Natural Science Foundation Program and CAAC foundation programs and projects, etc..

CATM has distinctive college-running characteristics, strict teaching management, reasonable faculty structure and high scientific research level. The employment rate of the college graduates is top-ranked nationwide. CATM is the best starting point for young people who are interested in the cause of civil aviation to fly their dreams.
