College of Computer Science and Technology

The College of Computer Science and Technology dates back to the Department of Computer Science founded in June 1987, and it has made significant contributions to the development of China’s civil aviation industry since its establishment. Now it has become an important research base for the development of information technology.
The College covers two majors: Computer Science and Technology, and Information Security. The College also offers master’s degree and Master of Engineering (M.E.) programs on computer science and technology. As a key discipline in CAUC, Computer Science and Technology is one of the three doctoral degree conferred disciplines under construction.
The College consists of four departments, namely the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Information Security, the Department of Basic Courses, Computer Experimental Center (Excellent laboratory in Tianjin), together with two research centers. The two research centers are Information Technology Research Base of Civil Aviation Administration of China, Information Security Evaluation Center of Civil Aviation. The former focuses on the research of network and information security, information standard, software certification, information planning and consulting. The latter is the unique institution for information security evaluation and certification of China civil aviation.
The College has a team of teachers and researchers with extensive research interests, profound knowledge, and outstanding academic achievements. There are 60 faculties (47 teachers) in the college, among which 12 are professors, 16 are associate professors, 3 are State Council Experts with Special Allowance, one won the Henry Fok Foundation Award for Young Teachers, 6 are returned oversea scholars funded by China Scholarship Council. One of them is awarded “Tianjin Distinguished Teacher”, and another one won the title of “Excellent Young Teacher” awarded by the former Chinese Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Industry. 21 of them hold Ph. D. degree (4 are working as post-doctoral), and 26 teachers have master degrees.
Since the beginning of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, the College has carried out numerous key research projects, including “SOA-Based Civil Aviation Information Public Service Platform” supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), 13 programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC), one international cooperation project(entrusted by ICAO), 6 programs funded by the Tianjin Natural Science Foundation(including one key program), over 20 research programs and 10 standard projects supported by CAAC, and about 30 crosswise tasks from corporations. By now, the College has 15 winners of Provincial Progress Awards in Science and Technology.
Currently, there are over 900 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the College. Faculty members in the College have made great achievements on teaching. For example, one teacher won the Teaching Achievement Award of CAAC, and another teacher’s course was awarded as the Excellent Course of Tianjin. During the past five years, students have won over 50 prizes in national and provincial contests of mathematical modeling, computer application skills, information security and so on. Employment rates for graduates and undergraduates are 100% and 95% respectively. Most of the students were employed by famous civil aviation enterprises, IT companies, research institutes, universities and so on.
The College has established strategic collaborations with many renowned universities, research institutes and enterprises, including ICAO, IATA, FAA, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Nankai University, Tianjin University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Okay Airlines, the capital airport, Guangzhou Baiyun airport, Tianjin Binhai Airport, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport, Chongqing Jiangbei Airport, Xi’an Xianyang Airport, TravelSky, China Academy of Civil Aviation Science and Technology, the Second Research Institute of CAAC, China Air Transport Association, China Airport Association, Qunar and so on.
The College of Computer Science and Technology has the power to create a bright future for our students. Our College will continue to build strong disciplines, improve educational quality, make research and innovation, and develop towards the goal of building a renowned university in the civil aviation field around the world.
