Airport College

        The predecessor of Airport College is Airport Engineering Department which was established in 1995. Along with the adjustments of departments and majors in Civil Aviation University of China (CAUC), the Traffic Engineering College was founded based on Airport Engineering College in 2002. On April 23rd 2010, it was renamed Airport College in order to meet the needs of civil aviation industry, improve the quality and size of airport specialized talents and integrate all the superior resources. And Mr. Li Jiaxiang, former Director General of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, wrote an inscription for this—the construction of civil aviation power calls for talents. He set high expectations for Airport College and encouraged all the teachers and students to continually progress for civil aviation industry.        

        There are 60 teachers in Airport College, including 10 professors, 10 associate professors and an expert who receives State Department Special Allowance. Teachers with senior titles account for more than 30% of all teachers and more than 98% teachers have a master's degree.
        The college has three undergraduate majors including Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering and Oil-gas Storage and Transportation Engineering, and four master degree programs including Transportation Planning and Management, Road and Railway Engineering and Oil-gas Storage and Transportation Engineering. The construction of a doctoral program on Communication and Transportation Engineering is underway.
         Airport College builds a research platform for all teachers and students based on the civil aviation airport engineering research institute. We successively undertook more than 200 projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation Projects, National “863” Programs, the National Key Projects, Scientific and technological projects, Civil Aviation Administration of China Fund Projects, and horizontal projects, the research funds of which have reached more than 30 million RMB. Additionally, more than 20 Provincial-level scientific and technological achievements prizes and 30 patents have been awarded to Airport College. Our teachers have published more than 30 books and more than 700 papers in various technology publications, in which more than 100 papers can be searched by EI, SCI and ISTP.
         Three research centers are set up jointly with foreign academic institutions, including Civil Aviation Airport R&D center set up by Tianjin Airlines and Landrum & Brown (in America), CAUC-Rhine Airport Engineering Research Center (with Germany) and Airport Facilities Security Center (with Singapore). Airport College has formed its distinctive features in teaching and research on airport engineering, airport planning and operation and China Aviation Oil (CAO)’s storage and safety. In addition, it provides technical services and support for many domestic airports and wins good academic reputation for CAUC.
          The college is seizing opportunities, meeting challenges and making every endeavor to achieve the goal of building Airport College to be an excellent training base for airport talents.

Undergraduate programs


Traffic Engineering

        The Department of Traffic Engineering in Civil Aviation University of China concentrates on airport engineering. So far, about one thousand students have graduated from this department. The training target is to cultivate engineering application-oriented talents with solid theoretical basis on air transportation and good abilities of planning and design, construction, maintenance of airport. The courses include operational research, material mechanics, airport engineering, airport planning, safety operation and management of airport, airport pavement design, airport operational command system, airport construction, etc.. This department can confer bachelor’s degree. The graduates will have a solid theoretical basis on mathematics, operational research and mechanics, good mastery of air transportation theory, rich knowledge of laws and regulations on run security, safety supervision and construction in airport. They will also gain professional knowledge and skills of airport planning, construction and maintenance, clear understanding of management methods and operation procedures of air traffic control, weather information, navigation, etc., know the latest developments in airport planning and construction areas, get strong abilities of knowledge renewal, technology tracking and innovation, and have good skills to solve practical problems.

        The education in traffic engineering department is closely related with civil aviation development, and follows the market demand. The employment rate is high, and graduates can work on airport planning and design in civil aviation design institutes, or conduct operation and airfield maintenance, airport construction and construction management in airports. They can also work in civil aviation administration organizations or pursue a master’s degree in the department of transportation planning and management.

Civil Engineering

        After four years of undergraduate training, our graduates will grasp the basic theory of civil engineering, obtain necessary knowledge and skills to be civil engineers, have the ability to plan, design, construct, and manage projects such as construction of airports, buildings, roads, bridges and urban facilities and become senior engineers equipped with knowledge and skills of civil engineering technology, engineering economy and project management. Students who complete the program and fulfill the credit requirements will be awarded a bachelor’s degree on Engineering.
        Graduates can develop their careers in planning, design, management, construction, supervision and technological innovation of projects such as construction of airports, buildings, roads, bridges and urban facilities, etc., or pursue a master’s degree on related subjects.

Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering

        This program aims to cultivate talents with all-round development of morality and intelligence, a solid foundation of theoretical knowledge, innovation ability and a good mastery of professional knowledge and skills of oil and gas pipeline, design and management of oil depot. They can conduct scientific research on planning, design, production, management in oil and gas storage and transportation engineering, and other related fields. Bachelor's degree will be awarded after graduation. The courses include engineering fluid mechanics, engineering thermodynamics, heat transfer, electrical engineering, instrumentation and measurement technology, pump and compressor, design and management of oil depot, design and management of oil and gas pipeline, pipeline transient flow, optimization of oil and gas storage and transportation engineering, etc..
        The main research fields include technology and management of oil & gas pipeline transportation, optimization of oil & gas storage and transportation process, corrosion and protection of pipelines and other equipments, etc., with the distinctive disciplines including transportation and storage technology and management of refined oil. The training objective is to cultivate academic and creative talents with abilities to engage in the planning, design, management, research and teaching work in the field of oil & gas storage and transportation engineering.
        Students can work on production management, planning and design, or construction in civil aviation oil companies, airports, ports, oil and petrochemical production and sales companies, oil and gas pipeline companies, pipeline or oilfield design institutes, city gas companies, etc..

Master programs


Road and Railway Engineering

        The main goal of this major is to train senior technical and management personnel of airport engineering, highway engineering, urban construction and related engineering fields. The research fields include project design and new technologies, health condition diagnosis of airport projects, geotechnical engineering and testing technology, runway and road construction and maintenance technology, engineering design and planning theory airport, airport energy saving and environmental engineering theory. In the past 5 years, researchers of this major have hosted and participated in more than 60 research subjects, including the National Natural Science Foundation, the national key projects, provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological projects, CAAC funded projects. The researchers have won 15 provincial achievements, and 42 national patents, and published 12 monographs and textbooks, 400 academic papers, 60 pieces of which can be searched by EI and SCI.
        Training objectives: The aim of this major is to train students with wide theoretical foundation and in-depth specialty knowledge. Innovation and creative abilities are emphasized throughout the education in order to educate high-level professionals with transport engineering and civil engineering and management background.
        The department of Road and Railway Engineering has more than 16 professors and associate professors with professional abilities. It can provide a good platform for students to pursue further education. There’re many experimental equipments and test facilities. Existing laboratory includes road engineering, structural engineering, building materials
, soil mechanics and environmental engineering laboratories.

Transportation Planning and Management

         The master program of Transportation Planning and Management was established in 2003, and the research fields include airport system planning, airport management, and airport environmental assessment. Civil Airport Engineering Research Base of China was set up on the basis of this program. Many books and precious data of ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) were collected in research base. Up till now, more than 60 scientific research projects have been finished, the department won many scientific and technology progress awards. Now, the research ability has reached domestic advanced level in civil aviation scientific research field.

Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation Engineering

        The specialty of oil & gas storage and transportation engineering aims at training innovative talents who are good at planning, designing, management, doing research and teaching in oil & gas storage and transportation engineering in civil aviation, petroleum and chemistry industry.

        The main research directions are:

        Oil/gas pipeline transport technology, including refueling pipe under airport apron, long distance pipeline covering from one hundred kilometers to several thousand kilometers, local distribution line to the consumers. Solids and water entrained with main fluid also are considered.

        Oil/gas storage engineering optimization to determining design schemes of pipeline, pump/compressor station, and storage tank, and transportation/storage strategies;

        Safety and protection of facilities and equipments. Pipeline, piping and common equipments and elements such as valves, pumps and compressors are important parts of a pipeline, and should be detected or monitored to get the working conditions controlled.
