Build the Brand of “ SIAE Lecture Room” Integrating the Essence

of Chinese and Western Cultures

        Since 2010, SIAE has focused on building the brand of “ SIAE Lecture Room”, to integrate the essence of Chinese and Western cultures, and to improve the professional and comprehensive qualities of teachers and students. Remarkable results have been achieved in the past few years.  On the evening of April 17^th, 2015, Professor Zhu Zhenwu, the director of the British-American Literature Research Center of Shanghai University, was invited to be a guest at the “SIAE Lecture Room” and to give a wonderful lecture entitled “The Current Thinking of Western Culture”, which was warmly welcomed by SIAE teachers and students.

          Since the opening of the "SIAE Lecture Room" at the end of 2010, Cao Guoxing, former Director of the International Department of the Ministry of Education, Olivier Laroche(General Manager of China Affairs, CFM Engine, SNECMA of France Safran Group), Michel Turpin(Asia Pacific Training Consultant of Safran University), He Li(former vice President of Air China), Ma Tao (the first vice-chairman of ICAO Council), Michel WACHENHEIM (the French representative in ICAO), Xiao Yijun(teacher of Université Paris X), Professor Feng Jian (the director of the piano department of the Tianjin Conservatory of Music) and other experts and scholars,  well-known figures such as high-level executives in aviation industry were invited to give lectures and the brand effect was increasing.

        As the chief translator of classic works such as Da Vinci Code, Professor Zhu Zhenwu delivered his lecture based on local culture, analyzing western culture and proposing not to blindly listen or to blindly follow. He encouraged students to form one’s own standards of judgment and to build cultural consciousness and national confidence step by step. From a cross-cultural perspective, he made a profound contrast and incisive interpretation of keywords such as freedom and democracy, national heroes and national leaders, traditional culture and literary classics, and objectively analyzed the understanding of education, freedom and democratic legal system in China and the West. The teachers and students could review objectively and comprehensively the western democracy and freedom that many people nowadays are bragging about after his lecture.
