Vice President Wu Renbiao Encourages SIAE Students to Pursue Lofty Ideals
On the afternoon of November 23rd , 2018 , professor Wu Renbiao, vice president of CAUC, gave a lecture on the topic “pursuing higher levels and opening a new chapter in life” in the lecture hall of SIAE. More than 200 students and teachers attended the lecture.
In the lecture, vice president Wu took famous scientists such as Einstein and Hawking as examples to introduce their contributions to society, the country and human beings, and summarized their typical qualities that deserve to learn from. He encouraged students to learn more and think more, to be brave in the face of difficulties and march forward.
Subsequently, vice president Wu described the twists and turns in his career and life experience. Hardships carry hope, and hardships lead to glory. He mentioned a mathematics competition at the age of 14, acceptance of PHD at the age of 28, arrival at CAUC for work, academic visit to USA, and setting up teams to carry out scientific research and discipline construction. Those experiences ignited the passion of the students. He summed up 10 sentiments of life to warn the students: “Seeking knowledge is a long and arduous process. Only by broadening the horizons and setting goals, can we achieve the results that satisfy ourselves. Because people usually get less than what they expect.
A postgraduate student enrolled in 2017, Chen Wei, said after listening to the lecture ‘I am deeply moved by vice president Wu’s spirit of pursuing excellence and I realize that young people should take a pragmatic attitude and be more persistent. We should pursue lofty ideals, meet new challenges, and achieve ambitious goals.’
