On September 5, 2022, in order to enhance students' legal awareness and preventive abilities while promoting the spirit of the rule of law, SIAE held a "Legal and Safety Education Lecture" for the 2022 undergraduate cohort in Lecture Hall 101. The lecture was hosted by Teacher Xiaoyu Liu and Teacher Xiaoqian Feng from the School of Law, who delivered a lecture titled "Understanding and Upholding the Law."

At the start of the session, Teacher Liu shared examples from his professional experience, discussing incidents of university students either engaging in unlawful acts or becoming victims of such acts. He emphasized the importance of learning relevant legal knowledge and remaining vigilant against potential harm.

Afterwards, Teacher Feng then addressed the students on four key topics: understanding legal knowledge, common legal misconceptions, frequent offenses committed by college students and related case studies, and enhancing self-protection awareness to avoid unlawful harm.

1.Understanding Legal Knowledge

Teacher Feng explained the connections between various types of departmental laws and students' daily behaviors, using relatable examples to illustrate how these laws regulate and safeguard different aspects of life.

2.Common Legal Misconceptions

Through examples such as theft and intentional harm, Teacher Feng clarified the fine line between legal violations and crimes. She stressed that ignorance of the law is no excuse for its violation, urging students to develop self-discipline and self-control.

3.Frequent Offenses Among University Students

Using real-life cases, Teacher Feng highlighted the types of crimes commonly committed by university students, serving as a cautionary tale for the audience.

4.Preventing Fraud

In the final segment, Teacher Feng outlined the major types of telecommunications fraud and strategies for avoiding scams.

Finally, Teacher Liu reminded the students that the law not only protects but also regulates us. She encouraged everyone to not only understand and respect the law but also to use it wisely, ensuring a vibrant and law-abiding university life.
